Presentation by: Jeff Peskind, Founder, CEO, Investment Committee
Chair,
Phoenix Investment Adviser
Mr. Peskind founded Phoenix Investment Adviser in May 2003. Prior to
forming Phoenix, Mr. Peskind started and managed White Ridge Advisors, LLC,
a proprietary pool of capital for Banc of America. At White Ridge, Mr.
Peskind managed over $500mm worth of Distressed and High Yield assets in four
separate funds. Prior to forming White Ridge, Mr. Peskind was a co-manager
of the distressed trading business at Bank of America and also traded the distressed
bond book. In 1987 he joined Morgan Stanley where he was part of a small
group which built the high yield and distressed bond trading business at Morgan. He
began his career in 1985 at Harvard Management as an equity and high yield
bond analyst. Mr. Peskind earned a B.A. in Finance from the University
of Illinois and an MBA at the University of Wisconsin.
The JLP Credit Opportunity fund is an event driven fund focusing on “stressed
corporate bonds”, which are cash bonds trading at a deep discount to their
principal values due to corporate fundamentals or market factors. These
bonds generate very high current income and offer a very attractive risk return
profile. The Fund has a 7 year track record, and brings a deep value
orientation to the High Yield bond market. Over it’s history, the Fund
has annualized 19.6%, outperforming any of it’s comparable benchmarks by 800bps
per year. The Fund seeks to buy bonds at 25%+ discounts to their intrinsic
business value in companies with adequate liquidity to continue paying all
of their obligations. The Fund focuses on asset rich, positive cash flow
companies with a near term catalyst for a business turnaround. The Fund hedges
the long bias by shorting equities of the same or similar companies when possible.
The manager aims to limit downside volatility through extreme diversification
and detailed fundamental bottom up credit research. The Fund trades only
cash bonds and thus has no CDS or counterparty risk, and uses little to no
leverage.
